ProTrainz.com - City of New Orleans/Panama Limited Pack

On February 4th, 1911, the Illinois Central Railroad renamed their "Chicago & New Orleans Limited" as "The Panama Limited" (The trip, which originally took over 50 hours, had been cut to 23 hours by 1889). On November 16th, 1916, the train became a luxury, all Pullman car service. It continued on until May, 1932, when it was removed due to the depression and the resulting cut-backs in train ridership. Just over 2 years later, in December of 1934, it returned, featuring the first air conditioned train cars in the country. Its overnight schedule allowed passengers to depart their respective cities in the evening, and arrive at their destination the next morning, refreshed and ready for fun or business. In 1947, an all-coach daytime counterpart to this train was added, the City of New Orleans. While the City of New Orleans was aimed at the less affluent customers along the mainly rural route, providing a 16 hour trip which left each morning, and ended around midnight at its respective destinations, it has probably become the more famous of the two trains due to the song of the same name written by Steve Goodman.

While ProTrainz has previously released a freeware "Panama Limited" consist, this new package is made up of entirely new models, with visible detailed interiors, passenger support, animated doors and wheels, and automatic naming and numbering. Included is a new E8A model (an E8B will be available later as a freeware add-on, though the IC only had 2 of these), and the necessary cars to complete both the Panama Limited AND the City of New Orleans consists.

You'll get:
a converted heavyweight baggage car, a baggage-dorm, a 4-4-2 sleeper, a 6-6-4 sleeper, an 18 roomette sleeper, a dining car, a diner/lunch counter car, a lounge, 2 observation/lounges, a 54 seat coach, and a 48 seat deluxe coach. Most of these will have several names/numbers and can be used many times (ie., you'll be able to place all 18 of the named 54 seat coaches used for the City of New Orleans on a route) to complete the necessary consists.
